Getting There

El Valle is located 126 km or 78 miles from Panama City, approximately one hour and 45 minutes drive through the Inter-American Highway. The entrance to the mountain road leading to El Valle is 4 km past San Carlos. There will be a sign reading "Las Uvas". This road heads up into the hills. It is advisable to be careful while driving on this road as there are many turns. After about 40 minutes you will catch your first glimpse of the valley spread out far below you, ringed by steep hills. Most of the houses on the valley floor are surrounded by trees, so the overall impression is still green and unspoiled.

Another option is to take one of the buses departing from Panama City in the bus terminal in Albrook. Although small in size, the minibuses have plenty of space and include air-conditioner. The trip last approximately 2-2 1/2 hours depending on traffic, and the cost is $3.50 per person. Most of the trip is along the Pan-American highway, with the last 28 km/17 miles heading into the mountain region. The first bus departs Panama City at around 7:00 a.m. and the last bus departing El Valle to Panama City departs at around 4:00p.m.
